First Things First

Don't you ever feel lost trying to battle Israeli bureaucracy? They speak to you in a language you hardly understand - even if you've been living here for a million years - they aren't nice to you, and you don't know where to find information. Even when you do, it's all in officialese, and you don't understand anything. That's where this blog comes in: your one stop shop for Q&A on the dealings with the infamous Israeli clerk.

I'm going to start with questions from Janglo that I see from time to time - but of course everyone's welcome to send questions too.

  • i think this whole thing is helpless. you're living in israel with a bunch of idiots who could care less for anyone else, but themselves. have you ever noticed how noone tells you any helpful information, unless you know to ask for it? or how it takes 1 month to get through to people you need to speak to? or how to get anything done you need to go down in person since noone bothers answering phones? or how the government people in misrad hapnim come to work in jeans and give YOU the attitude when they're sitting there playing on their cellphones and you're being the nice innocent American waiting patiently? or how they could almost run you over when you're in the crosswalk, yet they'll beep at YOU like you're the wrong one for crossing where you're supposed to? or when you go down to Misrad Hapnim and try to find out information about renouncing your citizenship and the main lady there is telling you that you shouldn't even be Israeli? or how the police here are the biggest criminals around? or how workers come to your house and leave it looking like a tornado hit it? or how you're just the stupid American, of course the right price to get around the block in a taxi is 80 shekel, that's normal right? JUST FOR YOU, YOU GET SUCH A GREAT DEAL!!!
